The Comprehensive House Story

£6,000.00

For period homes with a multi-layered history

For substantial Victorian or Georgian properties, or even earlier homes - large detached houses, grand terraces, or historic farmhouses that have been shaped by generations of change, ownership and adaptation.

Tudor, medieval and other pre-Georgian homes are particularly well suited to this level, where the depth of research required to piece together centuries of history is matched by the time and expertise we invest.

These properties often reflect a high level of visibility in the historical record. Many belonged to families with longstanding ties to the area, were built as part of estate developments or town expansions, or connected to local landowners and trades. Others may have been passed down through generations or repurposed for different uses over time.

The scale and status of these homes means they appear in a wide range of historical sources: census returns, property deeds, valuation records, building plans, sale particulars, directories, newspaper archives, and more. Some may even have been photographed, documented in estate maps, or mentioned in published local histories.

This kind of property often tells not just one story, but many - from the people who lived and worked there, to the wider social patterns it reveals. The Comprehensive House Story pieces together these multiple threads to form a rich, nuanced narrative.

Estimated turnaround: 12-14 weeks, depending on our schedule at the time of booking. This will be confirmed during the booking process.

Investment: £6,000

Payment: Choose to pay either in full or over two or three monthly instalments

Your House Story

Once your House Story has been commissioned, we begin by gathering the details we need and arranging your initial exploration call. This gives us the opportunity to hear more about your home, anything you already know, and the questions you would most like us to explore.

From there, the work unfolds in stages: detailed historical research, the writing of your house history, and finally design and print preparation. You will have the opportunity to review the draft before it moves into design, so that the finished piece feels complete, personal and fully considered.

Your House Story is then delivered as a beautifully presented history of your home - carefully researched, thoughtfully written, and designed to be kept and enjoyed for years to come.

We are blown away by all the stories and information you found. We spent hours poring over it all yesterday. I bought it as a gift for my husband's birthday, and we also gave a copy of the storybook to my husband's parents – they were moved to tears.’

CAROLINE FANCOTT-BEYNON, PEASELANDS, CUMBRIA

‘The package we received was so much more than we were expecting. The storybook and the file of images contain such an enormous amount of fascinating information. And we love the wall print; it will take pride of place in the cottage.’
