Book a House Story Consultation

Confirm your period home's research potential

Our House Story Consultation helps you understand which service best suits your period home through a thorough three-step assessment process.

Step 1: Initial conversation

We begin with a relaxed 20–30 minute conversation. During the call, we listen carefully, ask thoughtful questions, and begin to build a picture of both your property and what you hope to uncover. It is also an opportunity to clarify key details and set expectations for the next stage.

Step 2: Feasibility assessment

Within 7-14 days, we’ll carry out a high-level assessment of the historical records likely to survive for your home and its surroundings, using online sources and archive catalogues. This helps us understand the depth of material available and the level of House Story to which your property is best suited.

Step 3: Personal recommendation

Once the assessment is complete, we will recommend the House Story best suited to your home’s research potential and talk you through the next steps, answering any questions you may have along the way.

Investment: £200

Fully credited toward your House Story. House Stories begin from £3,000.

After booking, we will be in touch to arrange your initial conversation. We will also send you a short Consultation Information Form to complete beforehand, so that we can prepare properly and begin building a fuller picture of your home.

If you’re ready to begin, book your consultation below and we’ll look forward to learning more about your home.

FAQs

  • Booking a consultation first is simply a matter of preference. It gives you the opportunity to understand which House Story is best suited to your home before committing to the full service, and to ask any questions you may have about the process.

Every House Story already includes a consultation as part of the process, and if we find during the feasibility stage that another service would be a better fit, we will make our recommendation and adjust your package if agreed. Booking your House Story directly also means your project is placed into our schedule from the outset, so the process begins sooner.

  • The aim of our feasibility assessment is to provide confidence in the depth of research available for your home and to identify which House Story is likely to be the best fit. In over 90% of cases, we are able to do this within the time available for the consultation.

If, during the consultation, it is only possible to confirm a smaller House Story than the one you may have had in mind, we will always recommend the level we are currently confident in fulfilling. Further exploratory research may still uncover enough to support a larger House Story, and where appropriate we will advise on that potential. This may involve speculative research in archive collections, further mapping of census records, or other work to identify the property more clearly in the surviving historical record.

In rarer cases, it may not be possible to confirm any level of House Story with confidence without moving beyond the feasibility assessment into further exploratory research. If that happens, we will explain the position clearly and advise on the potential value of taking that next step. If you decide not to pursue it, we will provide a full refund of your consultation fee.

  • No. The consultation is designed to assess the research potential of your home rather than to carry out the research itself. You will receive our recommendation for the most suitable House Story, but the historical discoveries and findings form part of the House Story service itself.
